Dr. Niesters has studied at Leiden University in the Netherlands, where she obtained a degree in both Medical and Biomedical sciences (cum laude). Already at an early stage in her career she participated in scientific research. In 2014 she defended her PhD thesis on the endogenous modulation of pain in chronic neuropathic pain patients (cum laude). Currently, her research work focuses on the prediction, development and treatment of chronic pain. By now she has co-authored over 45 scientific publications. In the upcoming future, after finalizing her training in anesthesiology, she will start a fellowship in the field of pain.
